YOUTH CLASSES (Ages 5 – 14)
Out unique approach and training methods can guarantee practical skills that work and will benefit your child in ways you can’t imagine. Unlike other schools, PMA gives kids a chance to progress and have fun in all major matial arts rather than limiting study to just one style. Our classes include training in:
KARATE: meaning “empty hand”, karate was originally developed around 1400 AD by farmers on Okinawa to defend themselves against pirates and Samaurai using only farm implements and their “empty hands”
KICKBOXING: a style developed in America when karate balck belts who wanted continuous full-contact sparring split from other black belts who preferred a safer “point fighting” system.
JIU-JITSU/JUDO: Jiu-jitsu evolved among the samurai of feudal Japan as a method for dispatching an armed and armored opponent in situations where the use of weapons was impractical or forbidden. Judo, which derives from jiu-jitsu, rests upon the principal of turning an opponent’s strength to one’s own advantage and overcoming by skill rather than by strength alone. Although not the only strategic element, a primary principal of judo is that of taking of advantage of aggressive force by giving way rather than resisting it.
KOBUDO: meaning “weapons way”, this martial art employed the use of farm tools and implements such as the Bo (6′ staff), Kama (sickle), Sai (pronged baton), Tonfa (police baton), Nunchaku (tied sticks) and Hoe.
